The district cooling facility aggregates the cooling needs of the majority of Water Street Tampa’s phase one buildings. This creates economies of scale that drives efficiency, reduces utility costs, and increases project sustainability. Additionally, this allows for rooftops throughout the neighborhood to be activated with amenities and green space. The plant currently houses three chillers, six cooling towers, and 98 thermal energy storage tanks providing up to 8,000 tons of chilled water per hour across 1.7 miles of insulated steel pipes. The plant has capacity to add two additional chillers and three more cooling towers allowing for a total capacity of 13,000 tons of chilled water per hour at final build-out.
